The purpose of an Electrical Installation Condition Report or EICR is to determine whether the installation (as far as reasonably practicable), is in a satisfactory condition, meaning it is safe for continued service, or advise if anything needs upgrading.
We advise that an EICR is carried out on owner-occupied properties at least every 10 years and for rental properties every 5 years, or every time there is a change of tenant.
We also recommend that electrical inspections are carried out before buying or selling a property to ensure all parties are aware of the standard of the electrical installation and ensure they’re safe to use. It is important that only registered electricians carry out an EICR, to ensure competence around understanding electrical systems and the required periodic codes for an EICR.
